Deputy Speaker of Parliament addresses reports on Speaker Kadaga’s health
At the commencement of the plenary sitting on Tuesday 26th March 2019, the Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah updated the House on the Speaker’s health. Oulanyah formerly informed the House that Rt. Hon. Speaker Rebecca A. Kadaga is receiving treatment out of the country. He confirmed that the Speaker was unwell on returning to the country on Wednesday 21st March 2019 from executing official duties thus her admission to Nakasero Hospital. Upon advice by doctors there, she was transferred to Agha Khan Hospital Nairobi.
Earlier last week, the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga was on a work tour in Morocco and later the United States where she advocated for better policies for women and children globally. Soon after her return from this work tour, the Speaker was admitted to Nakasero Hospital on Thursday 21st March according to a press statement by her Press Secretary Sam Obbo. The press statement mentioned that the Speaker was admitted over fatigue-related illness which resulted from a hectic work schedule and jet lag.
Oulanyah assured Members of Parliament that the Speaker was improving steadily in Nairobi where she was admitted. He condemned the spread of what he referred to as false news by some sections of the media on the health of the Speaker and requested Members of Parliament to pray for her recovery.
