NRM MPs to move a Private members bill on Lifting of the age limit

A section of lawmakers from the ruling National Resistance Movement party resolved to present a private members bill scrapping the age limit cap from the Constitution.

The decision was. reached at a consultative caucus meeting chaired by Workers MP Arinaitwe Rwakajara today in Parliamentary conference hall.

The idea for a private members bill was fronted by the minister of Defence Adolf Mwesigye, who argued that age limit no longer matches with today’s quality of life where the life expectancy is 78 years unlike in 1995 when it was 47.

Earlier, Kyaka South MP Jackson Kafuuzi moved the motion for the meeting to discuss the Age limit question during the consultative meeting that was attended by 246 members belonging to the NRM.

The members went ahead to discuss when the motion for a private members bill should be presented to the House.

Hoevever MP Amoding Monica asked the chair that her name be withdrawn from the list of MPs that support the lifting of the age limit.

Last year, Nakifuma County MP Robert Kafeero Sekitoleko’s motion to scrap the age cap was lifted and Parliament tasked cabinet to table comprehensive amendments.
