A section of Members of Parliament (MPs) has asked President Museveni to free political detainees during the State of the Nation Address (SoNA) at Kololo independence grounds on June 4 2021.
The legislators carried handwritten placards with messages ‘‘release of political prisoners’’ directed to the President as he addressed Parliament on the state of the Nation.
Although the MPs managed to attract the President’s attention, he remained focused and carried on with his address with no response.
Contrary to what has been happening in some of the previous State of the Nation of Address by the President where some MPs try to heckle the President during his address, a section of the MPs this time adopted the silent strategy of carrying handwritten placards with messages.
Rule 10 Of the Parliamentary rules of procedure provides that while making a statement in Parliament, the President shall be heard in silence and his address shall not be followed by any comment or question.
